The Greatest Detective of them all

The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

This is a collection of short stories which was first published in 1894, but this edition which I have was recently published in 2006. The short stories in this collection includes: Silver Blaze; The Yellow Face; The Stockbroker's Clerk; The 'Gloria Scott'; The Musgrave Ritual; The Reigate Squires; The Crooked Man; The Resident Patient; The Greek Interpreter; The Naval Treaty; and The Final Problem.
I absolutely loved it! I found myself trying to solve the mystery before Sherlock Holmes, but since the stories are told from Dr. Watson's point of view, we didn't know whet went on in Sherlock's head. We only knew about all the small clues he found, after the criminal has been exposed. And it amazed me how he put all the pieces of the puzzle together.
Doyle had a great way of telling his stories. when a victim came to Sherlock Holmes, Holmes always asked for a detailed description of events, so that he could get his clues out of it. This made it possible for us as readers to get into the loop as well.
Although these are juts short stories, they are filled with adventure, surprises and good humor.
These were only short stories, about 20 pages each. I would love to read Doyle's full length novels of Sherlock Holmes. It seems that there are four novels and four collections of short stories which I must still read. When I have found them, and read them I'll tell you what I think.

ChickenPox

I got myself a lovely case of the chicken pox for mother's day. So hopefully, since I have a few days off from work, I'll be able to read some books. That will obviously depend on how I am feeling. Right now, I want to tear out the pages and scratch my body with it.

Wish me luck!

My Secret World

When I read, I live myself into a book. I usually go through the emotions of the character. If the character is happy, sad, annoyed or what ever other emotion, I feel the same. I once read a book about a shoplifter. I couldn't sleep. I knew I felt guilty about something, I just didn't know what it was. I soon realized that I felt guilty because of all the shoplifting. then I realized that I have never shoplifted in my life. It was then that I figured out where I get all my weird emotion changes. When I read, I go into, what I refer to as, My Secret World. No one knows what goes on, except for me, and I love it! If I could read all day, I would. But then I must probably get a different job, or stop working all together.

Introduction

Greetings!

My name is Neikie.

Like many of you, I love t read. I also love to buy books. The smell of books drives me insane. I love it!
A few weeks ago, when I was moving all my books into the spare bedroom, I realized that even though I have read nearly 90 books in the past 4 years, I own 52 novels which I haven't read yet. I made a resolution just then and there that I am not going to buy any new books until i have read these 52 books. Well, it's May, and so far I have only purchased one more book.
This blog will be more for myself to reflect on the novels I read. I will also to throw in a comment or two about those which i have already read the past four years.
Please don't take this as a review, for I am not qualified to give those. This will only be what I thought of the books. I'll throw in a few suggestions here and there.
My best friend never read (for pleasure). For the 21st anniversary of our friendship, I gave her a copy of my favourite novel. Apparently she hasn't stop reading since. One of these days she will have read more novels than me. Hopefully she will read this and add a few comments of her own. Go on Elsie, give us a shout!

Happy reading!
